When we’re doing our tasks/projects sometimes we found ourselves doing things that is totally unrelated with our current tasks, making our current tasks seems endless.

below I will give you some tips that I hope can help you on focusing more on your current tasks/projects.

Make sure that your body is well prepared for the current task/project.
Believe me when your body isn’t feeling so well, it would be really hard to concentrate, it’s better for you to get enough rest and therefor increase your effectiveness, rather than forcing yourself through the project. but of course if you’re on a tight deadline you may want to skip this step.
note: please differentiate between not having a fit body and laziness.

Remove any possible distraction from you.
There are lots of things that could make us off-track from our current task, so be sure to remove any of it before starting your task. here are some of it :

Turning off your TV/Radio unless you work better with noises (as some of us do).

If you’re working on a computer, turn off all of unrelated programs/application, and any unnecessary website that doesn’t have anything to do with your current task -and yes that would include social site, news feeder, and email too-.

Have only related items on your desk, put away everything else that would distract you. Keep it clean, simple and related.

Put a “don’t disturb” sign on your door, or just tell them that your don’t want to be disturb for the current time so your family would understand, and I’m sure they would gladly support you.

Create a plan for your tasks.
I know this would take time on its own, but trust me its worthed since this can help you to keep track with your current tasks. Here are some tips for creating your plan.

Understand what is the overall tasks, and break them down into smaller task.

If it’s a big project and you wouldn’t be able to finish it for a day, then insert those mini tasks into your day planning.

Set a mini deadline for each of the small tasks use a timer, and give small rewards to yourself each time you finish one, like stretch your body or just get a fresh air for a minute.

Put the plan in a place when you can see it all the time (when your doing your tasks).

Now act! act! act!, those previous step would become useless if you don’t act, do your tasks with discipline and stick to your plan but don’t be to strict to yourself, remember plans were made to keep us on track, not to make us like a programmed robot .

Give yourself another rewards, for finishing your tasks on the end of the day, finishing half of your project, and fully completed your project. The point is to keep yourself motivated.

Cheers, and keep on focus
